You can find a selection of the most frequently asked questions below, though if you have any other queries please get in touch.

How much experience do I need to apply for one of your roles?

This is dependent in the role applied for. If you’re looking at one of our ‘core roles’ eg Customer Service Agent/Aircraft Cleaner/Airport (Ramp Services) Agent etc, no direct experience is required as full training will be given. If you apply for a more specialised or support role experience may be required but the individual Job Description will explain this.

Will I get any training prior to starting with you?

All new employees will attend a role-specific induction training course. Also, if you’re starting in one of our “core roles” you will be given full training prior to starting the job.

I have applied for a “Fixed Term – Part Time” role. What are the chances of this being extended or made full time and/or permanent?

Although we do not guarantee anything over the contracted fixed term, we’re always on the lookout for employees who shine in their new roles. These employees will usually be offered further progression within the company. As a company, we also advertise roles internally every week on a Friday, for which any current employee can apply.

I have applied to be a Customer Service Agent (all core roles), and I see that it involves shifts. What kind of shifts would these be?

Every Airport and every role has different rostering/shift patterns in place. We have added some examples but have in mind these are only examples…

25-Hr Roster | 30-Hr Roster

Why do you require 5yrs work/education history?

This is a ‘Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)’ – UK /‘Irish Aviation Authority (IAA)’ – IRE regulation. Any ID applicant must have a full referenceable 5yrs work/education history and also a valid referee(s) for any gaps of over 28 days within the 5yr history. Any employee working airside with Swissport is required to undertake these checks in order to obtain their Airport Restricted Zone ID Pass.

Why do I require to have to give permission for a Criminal Record Check/Counter Terrorism Check to be undertaken?

Again, this is a CAA/IAA regulation and is also role dependent. You will be given further details on how these checks are undertaken further into the application process (usually during interview/assessment day).

What is the application process for an ‘Airside Baggage Services Agent’ (all core roles)?

These are the application processes for our core roles (successful candidates will be moved to the next stage, unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email). The full process should not take more than six weeks from initial application to notification of start date:

  1. The recruiter and hiring manager will carry out an initial sift of the applications
  2. You will be invited either to an interview or assessment day; at this stage you may be asked to complete a Numeracy and Literacy test amongst other activities
  3. Candidates will be invited to an Onboarding Meeting or taken straight to Induction

I have been told that I have been successful in my application and I start in two weeks for a company induction. What does this entail?

Inductions are standardised and tailored to suit the role. They can vary from 1 day to 4 weeks. The induction will include online modules for certain support roles and a period of 2-4 weeks for different operational roles. All courses cover Health & Safety and Security Regulation essentials as well as role specific modules.

Do I need to pay for a parking at the airport as an employee?

We appreciate parking at the Airport can be very expensive for anyone and offer a heavily subsidised rate for all our employees (if required). Certain Airports also offer subsidised ‘Travel Cards’ for local public transport networks (information will be given during induction if this applies).

Do I have to buy any uniform or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for working at the Airport?

All PPE and uniform will be supplied by the company during your induction. Please ensure you know your required sizes on your first day of employment. Have in mind you may be issued Airline Branded Uniform as part of your role so don’t be shocked if you are issued the same uniform as a Virgin, Emirates or British Airways (amongst others) ground/air crew members.

Will I have to travel to other airports or offices during my employment?

This again is role dependent, but most roles are based at a single airport/office. That doesn’t mean you may not be asked to support as a volunteer at another airport/office within the UK or even globally.

I am under 18yrs old, why can i not apply for a role with Swissport?

Due to both strict Health & Safety regulations surrounding working “Airside” at Airports and the additional supervision levels required by a number of airport authorities for under 18’s, and therefore as a rule do not employ anyone at airports under the age of 18*.

We do however encourage under 18’s to approach a “Swissport Academy”, where they can study aviation related courses, which are extremely beneficial for future applications to Swissport.
